Lovely Times.....And Memories Made.

Hello Everyone, I hope you've all had a lovely weekend, it's bee an extra special one here in Ada Beas world. The sun has shone, and I've spent some lovely time with my family, celebrating Mother's Day.

As parents, you always hope you help to make lovely childhood memories for your children....this weekend has been all about memory making.

On Saturday I went back to Southwell to make a little purchase, well actually it was a large purchase, but more of when it's delivered! Little Bea accompanied me, it's great to spend time with my girls individually. A memory made.

(Image from And A Fly Went By.....)

I took her to one of my favourite shops, And A Fly Went By.... It's a bit like Heaven to Little Bea, and with pocket money in one hand, and jelly beans in the other (children are always treated to sweets whilst making important purchasing decisions!) she too made a little purchase, but hers really was little!

We then popped to to a cafe for a drink, and Little Beas eyes almost popped out her head, when I agreed she could have a rather delicious piece of chocolate cake......FOR HER LUNCH, yes you heard right, for her lunch....healthy eating thrown out of the cafe window! Yep, that's one she will remember alright!

On wednesday due to the teachers' strike, I also spent time with Eldest Bea too, whilst her little sister was at school, we had a lovely lunch.....all very grown up! A memory made. (We shall forget about the disagreement we had in the shoe shop!) ;)

On Sunday we celebrated Mother's Day, and I was very lucky! The girls were very excited to give me their presents.....Eldest Bea had bought them using her pocket money! A memory made.

And Little Bea had made me a present, she was almost beside herself waiting for me to open it....

She had made me a lovely rabbit picture, these words were written on the back. A memory made. For her and me.

And then I went to see my lovely, lovely mum. My Sister and I gave her some chocolate, brushed her hair, popped a little makeup on her....a splash of her favourite perfume. We shared our memories about our childhood and what a great mum she Is.

And I tried very, very hard to hold on to those memories. Hoping that one day my mind doesn't let go of them, that they are always, always in there, and that they never, ever escape.

It was then time for a little trip out to Kedleston Hall, in Derbyshire. A beautiful house run by the NT.

Very opulent!

Our first picnic of the year, very relaxed and happy. A memory made.

I hope you too are busy making memories, happy ones of course! I'm feeling really tired today, I'm considering popping my feet up, and watching The Good Life! Now that does bring back Happy Memories! (I also considered opening the wine but that might be one memory too far!)

Bye for now,

Ada :) xxx

I've Actually Made Something!!!

Wonders will never cease......I've actually managed to make something! Started and finished. Now I'm sure some of you will have fainted at this point....I must be the only 'craft' blog, where the author never actually makes anything!

Little Bea was desperate for a moustache cushion, so this morning she chose her fabric, (she loves them there vintage sheets too)....I hope she likes it! This appliqué malarkey isn't as easy as it looks!

I'm really, really enjoying my new machine, she's a dream to use, I just need to learn to sew now!

I've just finished my quilt top, and I'm just wondering if I should buy a 'walking' foot for my machine. I've got my quilting pins, and I'm going to get some batting later today. Then I've got to be very brave and just get on with it! Gulp!

This week I went to Southwell in Nottinghamshire with my friend, we had a very pleasant time, drinking coffee and wondering around some very lovely shops! I love The Hen House which is just full of great home-wares....and met the lady behind Betsy's Button Shop.

A little purchase was made.....well it is almost Mother's Day!

Oh and I've a sparkly dressing table too.....I'm not sure what the purpose of dust is, but I'm always glad when it's gone!

I'm going to try and visit you over the weekend, sometimes blogger takes such a long time to connect me, it can take an age to visit you.

Thank you all so much for your comments on my last post, you are all so kind. I really do appreciate your visits here and the comments you leave even if I dont reply individually!

It's almost Friday.....hope you all have a lovely weekend!

Bye for now,

Loving Mum......

This weekend, here in the UK we celebrate Mothers Day. Up and down the country children will be getting excited, waiting to see their mothers reaction to the gift they've made or bought.

I was the same. I loved Mother's Day and would always racked my brains, thinking of something special I could get for mum. My favourites were those 'unusual' ornaments I would buy her. Despite the fact that I'm sure most of them were horrendous, she always displayed them on her shelves.

This year, although I'm still excited about celebrating Mother's Day with her, I know she will no longer get excited by any gifts I give her. I will get her a lovely bunch of flowers, to look at whilst she lies in her bed, and some delicious chocolates for her to taste.

I shall sit by her bed and hold her hand and hope that she knows who I am, that I'm her daughter who loves her so very much. I know she still loves me, there's still that connection between us, and I hope that that little part bit of her brain lives on, right to the end.

Mum can no longer smile, or laugh. She no longer hums or dances. She can't talk to me, tell me how she feels, or ask me how my day has gone. We can no longer plan our little adventures together. She is reliant on others for everything, when once, she was the one we relied on.

My mum has been the biggest inspiration in my life, from being very little I knew just how special she was. We have always had such a close bond, and it's that closeness that has made me such a strong, resilient woman. I've learnt from the best.

She is the one who showed me how to be a good mum, and I tell her that every time I see her. I tell her how much she means to me, and all the good things she has taught me.

When I hold her hand, she holds me tight, like a big hug. I know I've said goodbye to the mum I knew, and for that I'm very, very sad. But you know something, I love my new mum, just as much.

Bye for now,

For The Love Of A Good Sheet.....Vintage Of Course!

Oh I do LOVE a good Vintage Sheet, do you?

These are crying out to be sewn into a quilt don't you think? And that's what I'm hoping to make....that's my hope for 2014, that I will learn to make quilts! Before I can do that however, I will need a new sewing machine. Clarice, even after a service, still isn't working brilliantly. She isn't going anywhere, she still looks gorgeous, but I feel if I want to sew, I really need something more reliable.

I'm thinking a Janome one, my sister and friend both have them, although I'm not sure what my budget is yet. Has anyone got a Janome? Any suggestions or advice would be gratefully received!

I might even get myself on one of them quilting courses! Who knows!

I'm experimenting with the sizes of my photos too, most of you will know I'm not very (at all!) technical, so this could be a disaster! Yep it was.....I've put them back at the normal size!

Bye for now,

Ada :) xxx
