This weekend I have just been Me. I've not been Mum, I've not been Mrs Bea, I've not been a daughter......I've just been Me. I've been a friend, I've been a Valued Guest, I've just been Me.
I've somehow managed to get through my 40 odd years, without being truly indulged, I now know how it feels to be thoroughly indulged! This weekend, my Very Good Friend took me to The Vineyard in Berkshire.
The surroundings were glorious......
We sat in front of the roaring fire, drinking champagne and eating smoked salmon sandwiches.....
We chatted and laughed... We had Spa Treatments....We ate wonderful food...We drank some more....(the gap was where our wine bottle used to live!)
We chatted and laughed.......the hours passed by, so, so quickly.
That night we were treated to the most spectacular night sky, so many thousands of twinkling stars, a reminder to us both, how the most simple things, can give as much pleasure as fine wine and good food!
Apparently, I've been a very good friend, I've given a listening ear, a hand to hold, a hug when needed. This was a Thank You. A Very Big Thank You. I know how lucky I am. I know many people, never get to experience such things and I feel oh, so grateful...Thank You Dear Friend!
I returned home to my family, my lovely family. The uniforms had been ironed (and put away!!!). The children were happy, two whole PJ days, watch what you want on TV, eat what you want.....what's not to be happy about!
On closer inspection......Mr Bea didn't have any clean clothes to wear for work tomorrow, there was nothing in for dinner or packed lunches next week! "I didn't think" said Mr Bea, with a laugh, as he rushed out to the local garage (the supermarkets all closed!).
Oh well, back to reality, it was great while it lasted....the washer is on....now where's your homework Little Bea, you have a project to hand in tomorrow..........
Hope you all had a good weekend too!
Ada :) x
Sounds wonderful - and you do deserve it! Have got to love Mr Bea's parenting. I bet the kids had a blast. Have a lovely lovely week. Elaina xo

It sounds blissful! It's always nice to come home after a break but it can be hard too - i always think things unravel a little while I'm away. They don't really, it's just that I'm a bit of a control freak! ;-) x

ReplyDeleteIt's always back to reality with a bump, Ada, because that's the kind of lives we lead: real ones, warts an' all. But with some fab memories to squirrel away in the back of your mind and in your heart. You must be a very good friend (we know you must be) and you HAVE a very good friend who has shown it in a brilliant way. You deserved it. I hope it really was every bit as good as it sounds. Lxxx
ReplyDeleteThat all sounds rather familiar I must say (the coming home bit, not the spa bit, unfortunately!). Glad to hear you had a lovely time anyway.
ReplyDeleteOh to have such a good friend to spoil and thank you in such a special way. I'm sure you deserved every luxurious minute of it!! And laundry does have a way of grounding us all back to the realities of life, doesn't it? What would we do without it?! Wendy

Lucky you! and lucky friend to have a friend like you!
ReplyDeleteYour homecoming sounded familiar. I've just returned this evening from one night away in London. I was on a course and opted to travel up yesterday morning to make the most of it. So strange being away without little people. I can't remember the last time that happened but must make sure it does again!
Have a good week

ReplyDeleteWhat a great treat, and a lovely friend to have.
ReplyDeleteSo pleased you had a weekend of pampering and girl time. So important for us mums with complicated children to have time to recharge our batteries. I myself have just recharged with a purchase of yellow shoes which will have to take me through to around march when I might be able to sneak away with the gals. mel x
ReplyDeleteI missed this post the first time around. What a wonderful treat. I am sure you relive the moments of this trip, in your memories, over and over. Am looking through your archives as I want a closer look at those little fairy houses you made. My six year old will need one soon for the toothfairy.
