Years dreaming, and months getting it all together, finally my studio is starting to come together...just as I imagined it would.
On Friday, we nipped out to IKEA to pick up my new sewing table. I've been searching over the last few months, trying to find the right vintage table, but sadly I've not found one. They were either too big, too small, too expensive, or just not quite right. I'd tried to use my little blue one, but it felt awkward, I'm a messy sewer, needing lots of space. This size is perfect.
I've been looking for a vintage machinist chair too, but they are so expensive. The right one popped up on eBay yesterday, it's not the prettiest of chairs, but at a fraction of the cost, it can be a fixer upper. Bit of paint and vintage fabric and it will look fab...my family, as usual, will think I'm bonkers when it arrives. I love the look on their faces when they see some of the things I drag home...
I'm just waiting for the top to be secured to the legs, then I can get out my sewing machine. The first thing I plan to make is a sewing machine cover, and I need a new cushion cover too. I'm really looking forward to reacquainting in myself with sewing again, and hopefully improving my skills too. They really need it!
These aren't the best photos, it's actually very light in my studio, but my photos always come out dark, I'm not sure why. I'm going to need an iron and ironing board too, does anyone have any tips? It's not the biggest of spaces, so a small portable ironing table is what's needed.
I'm still pinching myself...my very own space, wonderful. I feel very fortunate.
Thank you all so much for reading my blog, and for all your lovely comments. I'm still enjoying my little corner of cyber space, but I'm feeling I need to make some changes, but I'm not sure what. It's a bit like when you've had a room the same way for years, same colour, furniture in the same place. It works very well, but you get the urge to get out the paintbrush, and move the sofa. I'm not sure how relevant Vintage Sheet Addict is to me anymore, although, looking at these images, vintage sheets are everywhere!
So, I'm not quite sure where I'm going, I'm not really sure if I need to go anywhere...but I do fancy a change. The next thing I will change however, will be that sewing chair, get it looking tip top!
Have a great weekend,
Amanda :) xxx
Someone approves! ;) xxx
Such a gorgeous burst of colour! What a lovely and creative space you have, and I cannot wait to see the chair makeover!
ReplyDeleteI know what you mean about doing something to blogs. It's a bit like re-decorating a room isn't it. After a while it all just needs a freshen up. I change little bits here and there all the time, just so boredom doesn't set in. I think our tastes are always changing or developing, so it's only natural that we would want something changed on our blogs too. Whatever you do, I'm sure it will be fab!
Have a super rest of a day!
Vanessa x
I think your right Vanessa...tastes do change and develop, perhaps I need to reflect this more in my blog. I'm a bit afraid of changing things, more because of my technical inadequacy than anything else! :) xxx
DeleteOh! so lovely to have your own special space......it look so tidy and everything in its place ....sigh...yes I sigh as I look around me! I have to share my study with my craft bits. It is packed!!!
ReplyDeletekeep well
Amanda xx
It's not really been used yet Amanda, that's why!!! ;) xxx
DeleteYour space is beautiful. I love all the bright colours and eclectic pieces you've pulled together.
ReplyDeleteThank you, I quite like mixing it all up...I've never really been any good at matching everything up! ;) xxx
DeleteHi Amanda, I do hope you don't stop your blogging, I would miss reading your posts. Your space is looking good. Take care.
ReplyDeleteHimAlison, no not wanting to stop, just to refresh the space that's all ;) xxx
DeleteThis space is amazing. I can see why you consider it a dream come true. I have a "space" of my own - the back corner of my basement. We have long term plans to finish it properly, but other things (new kitchen!) are more pressing these days. I guess I'll just have to enjoy your space until I get mine!!
ReplyDeleteFor so long I had the dining table and the back wall of the dining room, this feels so amazing! :) xxx
DeleteWow it looks amazing the table looks perfect
ReplyDeleteClare x
Feels massive compared with my blue one...better get quilting!!! ;) xxx
DeleteWhat a wonderful space x
ReplyDeleteOh thank you, that's praise indeed...I've drooled over your studio space for years! :) xxx
DeleteLOVE LOVE LOVING Your gorgeous studio, Amanda! So much more treasured for the long wait you had. I can't wait to share my pictures of my summer house, (when it happens!)
ReplyDeleteMy friend had that Ikea desk and I always loved it, so sensible but stylish too. And your wire stooge system! Gosh all the thing sI looked at too! Enjoy, you lucky girl, enjoy the heck outta it! xxxx
I will Lynne...every moment! Can't wait to see your space too :) xxx
DeleteWhat a wonderful, wonderful space. You've made it so pretty and welcoming. I shall look forward to seeing the finished chair. CJ xx
ReplyDeleteGlue gun, and staple gun will come in very handy CJ ;) xxx
DeleteI love your space.....So bright and fresh...Look forward to seeing what creations come from there, happy sewing.
ReplyDeleteThank you Mandy! :) xxx
DeleteHey you lucky one. That is a really great space to do creative work.
ReplyDeleteI am still a kitchen table sewer dreaming of a place like this.
But you're totally right: the first thing I'd sew would be a sewing machine cover, too!
Wish you so much joy with YOUR studio.
Have a great weekend, too!
Angela
Thank you Angela, it's been a long time coming, but so worth the wait! :) xxx
DeleteLooks like a really creative place to be... I still have that dream for a space a hip high table space for me... I have a little ikea table ironing board but mostly I just use a folded flat blanket to iron on... x
ReplyDeleteI'm wondering if the table will be big enough to sew and iron on too. Any larger things I make, like quilts I will iron up in the house anyway. Exciting Cass!!! ;) xxx
Deleteloving what you have done here it looks so welcoming. wonder how it will be in the winter, what sort of heat have you in there. I have a table top ironing board from Ikea it cost £4, think it would work for you too and who can tun down an excuse to visit Ikea. Loving the table you got too
ReplyDeleteI've got a little Eco heater, supposed to be more efficient, and cost less to run. Within ten minutes it's heated up, I'm crocheting a blanket at the moment just for my studio! I will have a look at that IKEA ironing board, sounds good :) xxx
Deletesorry should have read previous comments see the Ikea board has already been suggested. Will be interesting to see your machine cover, so much nicer than the hard cover they come with I have 3 machines to cover plus an embellishing machine so will see what you create
ReplyDeleteIt will be simple...very limited sewing ability!!! ;) xxx
DeleteWhat a wonderful place you have made to create, me and your cat approve x
ReplyDeleteThank you so much my dear! ;) xxx
DeleteIf I had that studio all to myself, I'd be pinching myself too! It looks amazing, and just the right amount of freshness and coziness combined. Love all the colours you pick out. I see lots of things you have shown in the past. You've made this into such a wonderful retreat Amanda. I would suggest an ironing board that will attach to a wall and you can fold it up out of the way when you're finished with it ... provided you have a bit of clear wall space and also an outlet right by the space for the iron itself. I have a small table top ironing board that I use in the kitchen when I don't feel like hauling up the big ironing board from the basement. It's been so handy since I started using it, but it's only good for small projects.
ReplyDeleteI do hope you still hang around a little bit in the blogging world. You were my very first follower!! It's been a lovely experience of blogging together. If you do decide to part ways, I will understand however as there are times when I have just slipped away too. It's a difficult decision after having blogged for a few years. Good luck with all of this Amanda and take care :)
Wendy xox
Thanks for the advice Wendy, a small ironing board is what's needed I think. I never knew that I was your first follower! Not going anywhere just yet don't worry ;) xxx
DeleteWell they say a change is as good as a rest, so whether you choose a change, or a rest or neither as long as you enjoy it that is all that matters. I wrote today on my blog about changing my blogging habits and as I wrote, the bottom didn't fall out of the world, so be assured, whatever you do it will be right and it will be good! Have fun in your beautiful new sewing space and making your new chair what you want it to be! xx
ReplyDeleteThank you so much Amy, for your advice and for your constant support too :) xxx
Deletehappy space to work in : great !!!!

Thank you so much for stopping by :) xxx
DeleteYour studio is lovely, such a beautiful space Amanda. I saw a idea for making an ironing board out of a folding tv table

Maybe a way to use some vintage fabric as a cover? I have one of those tables we don't use much so I am sneaking it off into my craft room to make one for myself :-) x
Thanks for the link Sharon, and yes...whatever I choose it will be covered in a bit of vintage fabric! ;) xxx
DeleteAmanda dear your studio looks gorgeous, I love all of the colourful wool, fabrics and books put away so neatly. Your sewing table is great, yes, we do need a lot of room to sew and make craft items. I have to use the dining room table which is really inconvenient. Minnie seems to have given her seal of approval. She is so sweet and looks remarkably like my Bob Biscuits, he is black with white whiskers, a white blaze on his nose, white chest and tummy, little white socks on his front paws and uneven white stockings on his back legs, just like Minnie's. :-)
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your new space!
xoxoxo ♡
Thank you Diane, when I'm in there she meows at the door until I let her in! :) xxx
DeleteIt looks so lovely :) last time we went to ikea I was ogling that table and all the storage boxes too. Thank you for the comment on my blog, it was really kind of you xx
ReplyDeleteThank you, it's a really good size, plenty of space to make a mess ;) xxx
DeleteIt's great to have your own sewing/craft space.
ReplyDeleteIt's wonderful Gillian, still pinching myself! :) xxx
DeleteLooks fabulous, practical & inspiring - all the things it should be! I have to ikea table top ironing board but made a new, thicker cover. I love it and use it more than my full size one, far more convenient. And it comes with a hook too so if you used a fab piece of fabric to cover it, it could be a great piece of wall art! Have fun, Marianne X
ReplyDeleteI'm thinking another trip to IKEA might be in order, thank you Marianne ;) xxx
DeleteIt looks so lovely I'm sure it is just has good as you dreamt. Sarah x
ReplyDeleteIt is Sarah, thank you! :) xxx
