Hexie Love...

Well Ladies, my vintage sheet addiction has finally sent me crazy, mad, bonkers! I'm LOVING my hexie blanket, but boy is it making my fingers ache!

This beautiful orange and pink loveliness dropped through my letter box last week and I quickly transformed it into these.....

Then I decided to turn some more of my pink stash into these....I know, I need help!

It was beautiful here on Saturday, Little Bea was at a party and Eldest Bea was recovering from a sleepover (when did my daughters' social life get more exciting than mine?), so in the garden I sat, making hexie flowers. I suddenly got the urge to photograph them on the lawn. Not sure why, good job the neighbours were out!

I know! I know! I've finally flipped!

I just love the swirl of patterns and colours, it doesn't matter that the ends of my fingers have gone numb, I just can't stop! Now I've started to put the flowers together, just to see the effect, and I love it even more!

I brought this brushed cotton sheet a while back to back it with, I'm not 100% sure, what do you think? If I can find a pale blue flowery one, I could change my mind!

THANK YOU all sooooo much for your fantastic comments on my Printers' Tray. It took much, much longer than I anticipated but well worth it. I think I must be a 'sucker for punishment'! I've got another 5 to paint and wallpaper!

Thank you for visiting me, I really appreciate your contribution and thoughts. I hope I answered all your questions! Please feel free to email me on vintageaddict@virginmedia.com if you have any specific questions.

Be back later in the week, if my fingers will allow me to type that is.....

Ada :) x

p.s. please join in my 'turn off the Word Verification Thingy Campaign', let's make our lives a little bit easier! X

  1. Hi
I loooove your hexies! I agree about a blue backing i think (or perhaps a pink/mauve combo) I have a fair few vintage sheets and pillowcases too, I'm trying to stop buying them. I saw the exact pink flowery 1970s bedding i had as a child in the BHF Charity Shop, but told myself NOT to buy it (but now I feel bereft that I didn't!!)

  2. it's lovely Ada! I've never done this, I'm wondering if your stitching by hand or on the machine? which ever way, it looks tricky. Well done, it's looks lovely all together, Heather x

  4. Ooh yes... I like the sound of the turning off the word verification campaign! Your hexies are delightful, pretty little flowers, sorry your poor fingers are getting so numb, but well worth it :) x

  5. Ohhhhh, your hexies are luscious. So very pretty, I can see how you got addicted!

And yes to saying no to word verification - it's a nightmare as more often than not I can't read what I am supposed to type!!

  6. It's going to be a beautiful blanket if your fingers will make it to the end.
Going to turn my word verification off now! They are annoying aren't they, my iPad always changes the letters I have typed into a word it thinks I wanted to right- damn you autocorrect!

    1. Thanks for joining in the campaign! Trick with iPad, write the word, then remove the last letter then retyype it, the iPad doesn't change it then! Ada :)

  7. It's coming along nicely and is looking rather fabulous, but 'ouch' I remember those poor fingers from working on hexies - maybe that's putting me off finishing mine.

  8. You certainly have gone completely bonkers dear Ada! But how lovely it is to take an overdose of vintage sheet joy. Sometimes I have to remind myself that for so called "normal people" this can be seen as weird. Well, my colleagues think I am weird as I always bring WiPs to work, show everything I do, always talk about it, scream out loud when someone brings a piece of fabric they found in a thrift store and bought just because they were thinking of me. Add the hours of fabric and yarn porn browsed on Internet and my hubby is threatening to bring this up with a psych if it gets worse... Well, what can I say? We are a bunch of crazy chicks out here in Blog land, loving every minute of it. So just keep on going crazy, bonkers, nuts, insane. I love it! You arre doing a fantastic job with your hexies.

  11. Loving those hexies - I am sure that during my childhood stays with grandparents I slept under sheets with all those patterns :)

Am on the hunt for a printers tray now - I want to make one as pretty as yours.

  12. I'm with Annette, being bonkers is good! How boring it would be to not have any interests or hobbies! And how much less colourful your home would be without all your beautiful stitched and papered loveliness all over the place. Amazing work on the hexies, I love the look of it but I'm just too slapdash in my approach to sewing, I don't think I'll ever have the patience!

And YES to turning off the bloomin' word verification nonsense - I've never had it, and I don't moderate comments, and in 8 months of blogging I've only ever been spammed once. So I will definitely mention your campaign in my next post - whenever I find the time to write one! Rachel xx

  15. I bet a robot would be able to read the word verification thing to pretend to be a human better than me. Sometimes I end up doing it zillions of times and end up shouting and swearing at the stupid thing - I have a rally short fuse with silly things.

Hexies are looking great, especially love the new orange and pink you know. I would hang on for just the right backing fabric if I was you. I'm not sure about the one you've got as the fabrics are so bright and cheery and that's more autumnal.

Hope your fingers last out now you've got the hexie bug.

Yes I'm now on the lookout for some more fabric, I have a duvet cover of the orange and pink but it's faded, so I'm not sure, really wanted some brushed cotton! Ada :)

  19. Oh my goodness those hexies are to die for! I'd hold fire on the backing - not quite right, nearly but not quite.
I am in total awe of your patience. First the printer's tray now the hexies. Oh how I'd love to be a patient bod.

I have turned the word thingy off too.

  29. I love the hexies too!! Such crispness to them and they're so bright and cheery!! But I would say "no" to the backing ... it's a more realistic flower print, but the flowers in the hexies are simple line drawings. Something more geometric would match it better with bright colours like the hexies. I can't wait to see the finished product!! Wendy

  32. Your hexies are so pretty.

When the new word verification started with the numbers as well and it was getting ridiculous, I thought I would check my blog to see if I had it on. I left a message and no word verification came up so I thought it was OK, but that must have been because it was my own blog and it knew I wasn't a robot, because someone pointed out to me that I did indeed have it on and how to remove it.

  33. That's some of the prettiest patchwork I've seen in a long while, it's lovely Ada. Personally I think I'd choose a plain backing mind you, but that's just me.

Couldn't agree more re. the word verification, mine's been off for forever and I don't moderate posts that are less than two weeks old and I mostly don't have a problem :D

  36. When I was a girl my first attempt at patchwork was hexagons. I mistakenly thought that any fabric of any colour would look magically wonderful together. On that occasion I was wrong and it looked terrible so I threw it away. It put me off hexagons for life..........or so I thought. Your hexagons look fantastic. Philippa xx
