Lazy days......

This week, I have mainly be doing.....very little!

I have mainly been, sleeping, reading, relaxing, reading, eating, drinking (tea and coffee!), relaxing, reading, email sending, reading, sleeping.....oh and making these....

They are actually relaxing to make, not stressful, listening to the radio as I paint and paste! Well I can't spend the whole week on the settee, can I ?!

I know how expensive the Printers Trays are, they cost a lot to buy, and take a long time to complete, if I could make them all day and give them away I would! That will be one of those Lottery Activities! As well as the big blog party!

These are the cheaper alternative! I am always looking for a cheaper alternative, are you?! The Pennies are really tight here in my colourful world, living off one little wage is a challenge. I used to buy lots of home magazines, thought nothing of getting 3/4 each month, more if there were freebies to tempt me! Now I just have my Birthday subscription of Country Living, kindly given to me by my Sister, and Mollie Makes, via my supermarket points!

This week, I thought I would treat myself.......

To the first addition of Homemaker, and Homes and Antiques! I'm was very disappointed with Homemaker, it didn't seem to have a strong identity. I knew there was an article in about Jane Foster, I love her work, but found the article didn't really have any depth, or inspiring, which I was expecting. I thought she should have been allotted more space! In my humble opinion, (and as a reformed magazine addict!), it certainly wasn't worth the £4.99 price tag, well not from my purse anyway!

My other favourite is H and A, I love the homes in this mag, and used to subscribe, but half the mag is dedicated to antiques (not really my thing, sorry!), if it was just full of vintage stuff then maybe!!! It's also a Christmas edition, hard to resist. I keep a lot of my Christmas magazines and bring them out after Bonfire night, to drool over!

I LOVE Christmas! Well I love the traditional, being with loved ones, sharing time, eating lovely food and a little wine Christmas! I love the children's anticipation, the magic, the little family traditions we make. I HATE the commercialism, that baubles are out in the supermarket in August, and the huge pressure put on parents to spend, spend, spend! If I could go back to just one Christmas stocking each I would, and that's not because I'm a Scrooge, I'm sure we would all have a much better time, take off the pressure, bring back quality family time!

Well, I've finally caught up with reading some 'new to me' blogs, there are some wonderful creative inspiring people out there!

Hope you all have a great Weekend, doing the things you love, be that relaxing or squeezing as much in as you can!

Ada :) x

p.s. I don't want this blog to be too much about my Etsy shop. It's not what it was intended for! So I will leave any Etsy news to a p.s at the end! Then if you aren't interested, you don't have to read it!

I've lots of full rolls of wallpaper and they are taking up too much room! I will be putting them on eBay soon, but if you are interested please email me and I will send you the details. Here are some......

I'm also sorting out postage, so I can sell wallpaper by the metre!

Thanks! :) x

    1. Unfortunately it is only a reproduction one, but it is lovely! We never use it though, when we put the heating on it gets too hot! :)

  2. Sounds like a lovely way to spend a week! Those trays are so cute.

I am or have been the same with magazines. House one particularly but they are so expensive, although I do find 25 beautiful homes a good one at least you get exactly that although weather the homes featured floats your boats or not is a matter of choice I suppose! I did buy the Mollie Makes for the first six months it was out but found I was flicking through it in about 15 mins flat and just didnt find it worth it for the £4.99 price tag. It is a shame as I love a good magazine as my towering pile would tell you. (All sorted now into a scrap book)

Hope you have a great weekend.

  3. Sounds like a perfect week to me. Nearing the end of half term now and I'm starting to feel guilty about lack of schoolwork I've done.
The thing that irritates me about magazines is when they sound great on the cover but are dressed in polythene. You get it home and realise the only nice picture is on the cover, grrr!
Just sent you an email re wallpaper.

I am also a magazine addict ... but in recent months I have become a bit disillusioned with some ... I will be doing a rethink on my subsriptions and maybe swapping to something else ... we too have only one wage here so all funds must be carefully allocated :) ... have a lovely weekend ... Bee xx

  8. Hello Ada, Glad you are getting your rest.

I mostly buy magazines for the inspiration I get from the photos. I used to spend a lot on them. But then I discovered Pintrest. When I need a visual fix, I sign on and pin away onto my boards.

I am putting away our Halloween this weekend so I can start bringing out Christmas by Monday. We are big on seasonal decor.

  10. What a lovely week - an you really can't beat a pile of magazines and the must have pot of tea to while away the hours with. I am a HUGE fan of christmas - I love it so much. I am grateful that at we don't watch TV as we don't get blasted by all of the awful advertising for Christmas and I love your idea of just one stocking. Christmas is not a nice time for many families due to the pressure to buy buy buy......Have a lovely weekend! Elaina xo

  12. Hi Ada, I got suckered in to buying the Homemaker and had exactly the same response as you, durr will I ever learn? I blogged about this topic ages ago but still get pulled in by misleading blurb. I do buy the odd Christmas edition of various mags but this year have been quite unenthused by all of them. (Better for my wallet, no doubt!)

Re your 'week off', I will be having one next week, and let's not be silly and start feeling guilty about it! Enjoy!

  14. I'm glad you have had a nice relaxing week and enjoying reading your magazines. I have Country Living and Coast magazine on subscription and don't have time to read any more - to busy looking at blogs. I too hate Christmas being so commercial. I am trying to make ours as natural and uncommercialised as possible!

  16. Your home looks a lovely tidy, relaxing place to be. Glad you have been re-charging your batteries. I have been trying to catch up with lots of the posts I missed whilst I was so foolishly trying to 'do' Blogtober, and was delighted to see you other name, reminding me of my best friend from school, who was fun, quirky and had an eye for colour and design! So you have two lovely names! I agree with you about magazines - there are some new ones out there that just don't justify the expense. Have a lovely weekend!

  21. Hi Ada, I used to have a terrible habit of popping in to Waitrose almost everyday for a coffee and of course then I would be tempted into buying all the magazines and the cakes!! I now save quite a lot I think. I drink my coffee at home and only really get Mollie makes. But now again it's nice to enjoy all the mags so Enjoy! Heather x

  22. Love your front room! I too am an magazine addict - trying to cut down…I love H&A especially the festive edition and mollie makes. Mags have got so expensive and the range keeps growing, but maybe not the quality content.

  23. Oh your UK Christmas magazines look lovely..I know we get Mollie Makes..but it will be a little late and I do get British Country living but usually the Christmas issue comes out in January! I have been gathering up a few US Christmas magazines...now to find time to sit and get inspired. Hugs.

  25. sounds like you really enjoyed the last week but still found time to be creative.Magazines seem to be going up in price so much these days, being a pensioner I also have to watch the pennies, Stitch and Classic Inspirations are my subs but do check out W H Smith`s sometimes and come away with the occasional patchwork mag, have not dared venture down the homes aisle, yours look so tempting.

  26. I too get major disapointment from magazines sometimes. There is so much on the internet to look at and get inspiration from real people. But sometimes it is nice to sit and feel the pages between your finger tips! xx

  27. Great photos, I also recognise those wallpaper patterns from my childhood.

  28. You freak me out! I have some plates from the same Pip Studio collection, and I love to read Mollie Makes, H&A, and Country Living. Have I found my English twin?!

  29. I'm with you on the commercialism of Christmas. I can't be doing with Christmas stuff in the shops before summer is over, or the adverts on tv for children's toys which cost a fortune, folks getting into debt just because they feel they have to spend, spend spend.

  30. Sounds like a heavenly week, and one you deserved. Interesting to read your magazine reviews. I get mollie makes and country living on subscription (birthday presents!) and treat myself to the odd one now and then. But I can never resist the Christmas editions! We are also a one income family and this time of year tests our budgeting to it's limit. x

  31. Hi Ada, what a lovely week you've had of relaxing and achieving! Your houses are so sweet. My girlfriend gave me a subscription to the UK Country Living for my birthday last year, which is such a real treat!!

  32. Hi Ada!

I am so with you in regards to your thoughts about Christmas. I find it far to commercial, and hate the "baubles-in-August" thing too. But I do love to decorate for the Holidays, and I love the time spent together with friends and loved ones.

As for magazines, I too used to buy loads every month. But have really reduced my purchases to (the British) Country Living only, along with some special one that might have something most inspiring and interesting to me. Generally I find the magazines, at least here in Norway, too samey. And rather pricey too!
