Forgotten Friends......

In my quest for all things vintage, I've forgotten some old friends....

That will never do!

So this year, I'm going to mix it up a bit, the vintage with the new, just a little you understand!

I've treated myself to Mollie Makes subscription, these came with it, some lovely Liberty prints.....

Beautiful colours....

My heart belongs to vintage sheets......but I'm going to mix it up a bit, you don't mind, do you?!!!

Finding these in the back of the cupboard made me remember how much I loved Polka Dots, I need to do something with Polka Dots!

I've been practising my stitches, just to get the hang of cotton yarn and a smaller hook, mixed results......I'm doing something wrong at the end and beginning of the rows! (actually in the middle too!) I'm in no rush....Rome wasn't built in a day, I will get there in the end.

Little Bea has brought Alphonts home this weekend from school. You have to make him something, we made him a little bag and Little Bea drew a little picture to put in it! I'm glad we got him early on, think it might get harder and harder to know what to make!

Thank you all SO MUCH for all your wonderful comments on my blanket, I really want to get the hang of this Hooky Business, all those wonderful colourful yarns.....sends me giddy!

This weekend has been a bit of family, a bit of friends, a bit of crafty, now we must do a bit of homework, I think schools should introduce a 'weekend homework' ban!

Back later in the week, had Parcels in the Post, will share!

Welcome to all my new friends, thanks for stopping by, don't feel shy, leave me a comment, I'd love to here from you......

Ada :) x

p.s. Etsy news, fabric will be listed this week! :)

Fabric and pillowcases now listed! :) x

(well, I can't do a fabric post and not have some vintage sheets in there, can I!?)

  3. Lovely fabrics Ada. Can't wait to see what you do with them. I like mixing them up. I'm just making a quilt that is vintage with contemporary polka dots.
I know exactly what you mean about the homework...

  4. Hi dear! Some of those fabrics are to die for my friend. Love the navy blue and the one that looks like a Liberty print... Gorgeous! I think it is a great idea to mix your vintage with new. That is what I have always done. It gives it that special twist. i promise you will love it. And regarding the crochet... You are doing great. you should have seen my first trial patch... Some advice:

    1. Make a set number of chain stitches when you start and remember it, lets say 20 stitches.
    2. When turning on a double crochet stitch(UK), chain one and turn, start your next row in the second stitch from hook.
    3. When turning on a treble crochet stitch(UK), chain 3 and turn your work. Start your next row with a treble in the 2nd treble in your last row. Make sense?
    4. Count your stitches. Make sure you always make the same amount.

You'll get there. You have it all going. Believe me, I've seen worse. I taught a girl at work and she could hardly hold the hook at all AND she was left handed. i thought to myself that this will never EVER work. After a weekend of practicing her stitches she came back with a first patch like yours, I taught her some tricks. In a month she had made a baby blanket for the baby she was expecting. Adorable and perfect!

    Hugs

  6. yes it's tricky to get the rows to all match up, you have to do some stiches right in the last loops! sometimes you need to just find something to make a stitch in, also counting them can help! It's coming though and yes mix up fabrics why not, Heather x

Oh and thank you very much for your Mod Podge recommendation for the vintage wallpaper - I've just blogged about it with some of your lovely wallpaper :) http://www.zoepower.co.uk/2013/01/the-magic-of-mod-podge.html xx

  8. Once made up, the new fabric will eventually become old. Your new prints are so, SO pretty! I agree that homework over the weekend steals family time ... my son had a project given out the day before Christmas break, and was due on their return ... horrid teacher!! Your crochet is looking a little wobbly on the ends but pretty good in the middle! I see you're getting some helpful advice from others, and I'm sure you'll figure out those ends lickety split! Sorry I can't help as no crochet experience. Take care Ada,
    Wendy

  9. I am a big believer in mixing old with new.
Just always seems to be a lot more old than new (could be something to with my thrifty nature).
I struggled with crochet in rows. You have to remember to chain at the end, 2/3 depending on whether you are doubling or trebling. Think that is right??
    Good luck and enjoy. Xxx

  13. Yes, the mix of old and new is good. My daughter also subscribes to Mollie Makes so I have a look at it whenever I am at her house. I thought of you this week when I visited a friend and she had the very same sheet that is your header down as a dust sheet whilst painting!!!!!!

  14. I like mixing it up. You've got some lovely fabrics in your stash Ada!

My crochet looked just the same as yours when I attempted crocheting into the stitch, so I read the advice above with interest. Practice, practice...

  17. Hi Ada, I was going to sign up for MM mag too but a lot of people must have had the same idea and the liberty fabric had been replaced by another sort. :( I'll wait til something else comes along I fancy.
As for your old friends, do all the mixing up you like, when it comes to fabric it's gotta be a case of the more the merrier hasn't it? And as for polka dots, well they go with anything and everything!
Good luck with the crochet. I used to have trouble when it came to crocheting in rows but I found that after I made my chain at the beginning of a row, if I crocheted my next stitch into the first available space it fixed it up (rather than missing a space due to having made a chain), it feels like you're doubling up on the stitches but it works. My Rose Valley most probably describes it way better than I did!
I look forward to seeing your up coming makes and fabric goodness

  30. I love how the Amy Butler fabric works so well with vintage. I remember our girls bringing home a bear with a bag....I think we had to either make or do something special with the bear and we had to log all of our activities. So Fun!
