Well, dining chair up cycling has commenced, chairs have been cleaned, sanded.....undercoat on, first coat of paint on......but I've reached 'That Bit'. Do you know That Bit?
It's the bit where you think......oh my, what have I done. This is the bit where I wish I could be happy just to go to a shop and just buy 4 dining chairs, like a normal person. Or a least have the cash to go and buy the outrageously expensive up cycled chairs, you know the ones you see in all those lovely up cycled vintage, retro shops!
But I don't have the cash, I can't even afford the paint I wanted......so what's a girl to do? Well she just gets on with it, uses up the paint she has, and uses her imagination to make them the best she can! You know all about this one, don't you!
Oh and take inspiration from these.....
Lots of lovely inspiration in these.......
Lovely images, and you know what.....if I used too many colours then it would look overpowering, in my little space anyway! Better crack on.....
Chairs to paint and all that!
Thanks for all your great comments and support over my last few posts, I'm doing a little bit of painting, and lots of resting and reading in between.
I've created myself a lovely space, here in my conservatory. It's been cleared out and it's a fantastic space to relax.....it's the first time in 9 years it hasn't been filled with toys! It's sad that the girls toys are diminishing as they get older.....but the flip side is more space, to rest and relax!
As I'm sat here, I keep thinking, it could do with a lick of paint.......
Back later in the week, hopefully with completed chairs....unless they go back to the charity shop! (Only kidding!)
Ada :) x
~ Good luck....they will be wonderful....There are no rules with giving old furniture a new life...I painted up an old tea trolley at work last week....honest you wouldn't have given 'threepence' for it....
ReplyDeleteCame up a treat...the only thing is I want it now...will have to use my charm with my OH... hehe..Take care and take time to dream ~ Love Maria x
I have a tea trolley too, it needs turning from gold to....can't make my mind up! :) x

ReplyDeleteWill do, hopefully next week when the girls are back at school! :) x
DeleteI love to sit in our conservatory and do some quiet crocheting, it helps when the weather's a bit warmer though. Looking forward to seeing the finished chairs and perhaps a peek in the conservatory :) xx
ReplyDeleteThanks Cheryl, will do! :) x
DeleteYour chairs will be fabulous, but yes, I do know 'that bit.'
ReplyDeleteHi There, so far so good?!!! Loooove the style of your chairs!!!!

You're well ahead of me, I'm sanding and painting 2 sewing boxes at the moment. It will be worth it, every time you sit down you can say ooak! Eco Ethel xx
ReplyDeleteWho wants to be normal?! I know what you mean though - sometimes it does seem like the easier option but that thought soon passes. Your chairs are going to look wonderful x Jane
ReplyDeleteI'm sure your chairs will become fabulous!! And they will be even more beautiful because you created it your self!! Groetjes,Gerda
ReplyDeleteOh I know "that bit" so well. But you know they will be fabby when they're finished. Sarah x
ReplyDeleteCan't wait Ada......
ReplyDeleteI seem to spend an inordinate amount of time in 'that bit'! They are going to be lovely!
ReplyDeleteEleanor xx
Like a friend recently told me ... 'take your time, there's no rush' ... hmmm? The chairs already look fresh and wanting more! You've done terrific work in everything you've shown in the past, I don't doubt for a minute that these chairs are going to be fantastic :) I'm glad you've made a space for yourself in the conservatory (sounds so posh!) A great spot to decorate your own way and put your feet up (you do have a good footstool don't you?). Take it easy Ada, I'm glad to hear you're feeling a bit better. Wendy xox
ReplyDeleteThanks Wendy, I appreciate your faith in me! :) x
DeleteKnow just how you feel! I love upcycling but it's not easy. I do it, like you, because I can't afford to pay swanky shabby chic shop prices. Just bought a standard lamp on eBay which was apparently 'mahogany' but has turned out to be painted dark brown!! Another project on the blooming list to be painted!
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to see your chairs. Thanks for making me smile with your posts.
X Sally
Your welcome Sally! :) x
DeleteThe chairs are going to be gorgeous and when they are done you will be so proud! You have an eye for colour and pattern and I'm looking forward to seeing what you do with them. Take care. x
ReplyDeleteThey are coming on a treat Ada, hang in there, they are going to look super duper cool! I think that quote about a mis-matched cosy home with personality sounds just like my home, wouldn't want it any other way xox Penny
ReplyDeleteAbsolutel Penny! :) x
DeleteYou wouldn't have the same pride and feeling of creating something lovely if you had just gone out and bought the chairs brand new. Take care.
ReplyDeleteSarah x
They look good to me, look forward to the big reveal.
ReplyDeleteI think the best things are the ones you make - full of love - you can't get those from a shop! It looks like you're doing a fab job - cant wait to see the finished article! X
ReplyDeleteI am so excited to see your finished chairs - I just know they'll be way better than anything you could have bought! And you'll have so much satisfaction for having made them yourself!
ReplyDeleteNikki x
You can do it!
ReplyDeleteI'm sure it will be worth all your hard work! Can't wait to see how they turn out.
ReplyDeleteYou're way ahead of me - I have spent the last 6 months looking for some kitchen stools to upcycle. Still haven't found any either in budget or nice enough for my picky ways!! The search carries on. Can't wait to see how your chairs turn out. I bet they are going to be amazing. xx
ReplyDeleteI've got some great 1950s ones, I will up cycle them in the summer, when I can get to them, think they are lurking in the back of the shed! :) x
DeleteI'm sure your chairs will be absolutely gorgeous! And they will be totally unique to you and your home.
ReplyDeleteM xxx
Can't wait for the big reveal ... Bee xx
ReplyDeleteKeep at it Ada, sounds like you're almost there......they'll look fantastic when they're finished.
ReplyDeleteThe conservatory sounds like sounds like the perfect place for a bit of R&R with SPring on the way.

DeleteLooking forward to seeing the chairs! A house with personality, i wish i had enough taste for such a thing!
ReplyDeleteOh yes, I know 'that moment', but trust in your creative energy and they will be great, and free!!
ReplyDeleteA good start!!!!
ReplyDeletexxxx Ale
doing a grand job here, waiting to see what you cover the seats with.
ReplyDeleteOh Ada I DO know that moment very well! I'm always starting things with grreat gusto which then peters out .....but do keep on, the chairs will look beautiful. I have done two and four more to go - but they've been waiting a couple of years now!!! Lx
ReplyDeleteLynne, you do make me laugh! :) x
DeleteYour chairs will be gorgeous, I am looking forward to seeing what beautiful choices you make for the seat covers :) I hope you're feeling better now, and having lots of rest between the crafty times. I'm just catching up, and I wanted to say thank you so much for featuring my book in your previous post, it was a lovely surprise and much appreciated. Take care, lovely Ada.
ReplyDeleteHelen x
You are welcome Helen, your book deserves a mention, it's lovely! :) x
DeleteI often get this feeling halfway through a project, but it always works out in the end and it is so worth it to enjoy a finished piece. Getting started is always the hardest bit so at least you have that over you! I am looking forward to seeing your final result
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for your visit, I'll pop over and see you soon! :) x
DeleteKeep going they will look fab. I find if it is not a project I can complete within one two hour session then I won't even take it on, I need the instant gratification and I get way too many interruptions. mel x
ReplyDeleteMmm, I know that feeling. Keep going, grrr, push on through that mental barrier and they'll look sodding gorgeous, I know it. Thanks for the lovely comment on my blog btw. It's my due date today so shouldn't be too long before my little fella makes an appearance... X
ReplyDeleteI for one can't wait to see them X
ReplyDeleteI so know that feeling, have been (and most probably will be) in that situation many, many times.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure they will look fabulous though.
Nina x
I'm just finishing top coat now, are you done yet? I'll show you mine if you'll show me yours! EE xx
ReplyDeleteLol :) x
DeleteOh I hear ya!! Having been revamping some furniture myself lately for the studio, and get massive attacks of the Impatients with it all. And yet I LOVE painted and upcycled furniture so much. You have my two favourite books there, endless inspiration in those pages.
ReplyDeleteCan I just say....re Facebook and blog links??....if you copy and paste the URL of your current blog post in the writing box over on facebook, it'll automatically generate a little linky back to your blog, with a selection of thumbnail pics for you to choose from. You can add a caption/words to the link too if you wish. You might already know this, but someone had to tell me how to do this and I was so grateful for the friendly info!
Much love....I owe you an email too, coming shortly xxxxxx
Thanks Lucy, I'll have a look at that, it's all new (and confusing) to me! :) x
DeleteBeen catching up with all of your news dear Ada - lovely super duper chairs. 'Tis the season for chair revamping perhaps - I bought a couple the other day for painting purposes. Cheap as chips of course - which is part of the attraction don't you think? Anyway you have made yours into lovely creations to keep forever and a day
ReplyDeleteHope that it has been sunny for you today
best wishes
Jenny
