This week I'm concentrating on the positives, of what's been good.
Finally facing my fears, I've finished my quilt!
By quilting standards, this one was an easy one, but everyone's got to start somewhere......
On a dull day like today, it's a rainbow of cheeriness!
I was helped to conquer my fears, by the very lovely Amanda who runs The Faff Rooms, a haberdashery and sewing workshop. It's a brilliant little place, it's only in it's second year, and Amanda is developing and growing this space brilliantly. There's such a welcoming atmosphere there.
So what next on the quilting quest.....I'd love to do something with triangles, anyone know a fool proof way to join triangles? They look tricky!
We gave Mum a brilliant send off, concentrating on what we had by knowing her, rather than what we lost. There were tears of course, but lots of happy memories, and we celebrated one wonderful life. It would have been Mums 87th birthday today, my sister and I are going out for lunch......good wine and good food, Mum would wholeheartedly approve!
On Sunday we took a little trip down the Chesterfield Canal, a very gentle way to see the countryside.
Now, I think I might need to do a bit more of this......
Everyday I'm grateful for my crafty life.....yes, it's been a good week.
I hope you all have a great weekend, I hope good things happen....
Bye For Now,
Ada :) xxx
So glad to here you have had a wonderful week....enjoy your lunch Ada

Ooooh, it's a beauty! Actually, I thought it was mine at first! You can't go wrong with a vintage sheet quilt. Have a great weekend. xx
ReplyDeleteYou've done a fabulous job with your quilt - very impressed! I think colour can never fail to lift the spirits. Big hugs to you lovely Ada and your fabulous positivity. Enjoy your lunch! xx
ReplyDeletehi Amanda, never tackled triangles myself but lisa from bobo bun did a post about it. I am guessing it was a year or more ago. hope you have a lovely lunch. Eleanor x
ReplyDeleteI am a vintage sheet fan, they are a bit thin on the ground around here but I have snapped up several pairs of pillowcases. I see lots of familiar prints in your quilt it looks very good. Try looking at the Missouri Star Quilt Co tutorial videos on U tube, they show more than one way of using triangles. If you would like them I have some Thangles, they are paper piecing strips to use with 4 1/2 " strips of fabric, each little paper strip gives you 4 HST finished at 4". I have used a few but like a dipstick ordered the wrong size for me.. I am happy to pop them in the post to you, just email me you address.
ReplyDeleteYour quilt looks fantastic Ada, so fresh and cheery (like yourself!) Glad to hear you've been having a positive week. Hope you have a lovely weekend too :)

So glad everything went well, Ada, and you remembered your mum as she was at her best.
ReplyDeleteAnd your quilt is beautiful. Triangles are not easy because of the points, but they do add great dynamism to a quilt I think. Lxx

I hope you had a good lunch with your sister. I've been at the Handmade Fair today, and have become even more determined to tackle a quilt. Sewing scares me!
ReplyDeleteWishing you a good weekend - I've just started a new blanket in more muted colours - so you think it's Autumn that does it? x
PS - love your cat.
Well done with the quilt. It looks amazing.
ReplyDeleteHere's hoping this coming week is a good one for you lovely lady. x
Hope you and sis had a fab lunch... smashing quilt Ada.... here's a link not quite what you asked for but I saw it and thought triangles... http://ing-things.blogspot.co.uk/2014/09/triangle-pillow-and-why-i-dont-like.html Smiles Cass x
ReplyDeleteYour quilt looks fabulous! So glad to hear you are full of positivity and had a good week! Lovely picture of your Mum, what a great way to celebrate her birthday! xx
ReplyDeleteyour quilt is a real beauty. Re triangles there are lots of tutorials on u tube, it is best I find to do it from 2 squares that you stitch and then cut so you then have 2 half square triangles joined together to make another square, sorry that is all a bit confusing but have a look in utube, much easier than joining triangles and no problems with bias that way. Good to read you spent what would have been Mum`s birthday with your sister. Canal trip looks so peaceful
ReplyDeleteYour quilt is GORGEOUS Ada.
ReplyDeleteI think it's a stunning first quilt and I'm sure those cheerful colours have helped lift your spirits this week.
Glad you are keeping positive...keep being kind to yourself lovely.

ReplyDeleteSorry about your mum, but it's wonderful that you and your sister observed the loss in a way that made for happy memories instead of sad.
ReplyDeleteI love the quilt, so cheerful! How nice to spend the day with your sister, sharing memories maybe?

ReplyDeleteI haven't been about for a while, so I popped over to see how you are. I'm so sorry to read of the loss of your Mum. You have my sympathy sweet lady. Bless you all.
ReplyDeleteYour quilt is lovely! The colours look beautiful. Just my kind! :) big hugs. Take care. X
That's a lovely positive post, I really admire you.
ReplyDeleteYour quilt is beautiful, so cheerful, and well done for finishing. I tried a triangles one, but have given up and reverted to squares, as I didn't understand how to join them without an excess of fabric and am afraid I am a bit too impatient to learn properly. Good luck with yours, I am sure if you can crack crochet, you can conquer triangles!
Such a beautiful quilt Ada and your description of it is perfect!!!!!! "A rainbow of cheeriness"!!!!!!!!! Beautiful!!!!!!!! I think I need something like that in my life right now! Have a happy and creative week!!!
ReplyDeleteLove

ReplyDeleteBeautiful quilt, lovely moggy.Gorgeous pic of your mum.Creating does help to heal couldn't do without it.Hugs xx
ReplyDeleteBeen catching up with your news and stopped here to comment. Sounds great that you're still creating and keeping busy just what's needed. Quilting looking good. When I first tried triangles I wanted to make windmills. A friend who knows this stuff told me to put two squares rights sides together in the contrast fabrics, sew all the way round the square and then cut into a triangle from one corner to the other. When you open them out you have perfect lines. You can cut into smaller ones too and save loads of time. Have fun lovely and I'll look forward to seeing the quilt. Hope Alfie's ok now too. X
