"Wow Mum! This is cool, what are they called again?"
"It's a typewriter, that's all we had in the 70s!"
"Mum, it doesn't work"
"Yes it does, you just have to press harder, it's not like the laptop!"
"Mum, where's the spell check?"
"It hasn't got one"
"Well, where's the delete button?"
Sigh.......
For once my daughters were thrilled with something I brought home from the charity shop. We had a great time typing letters.
Yay, I've found one...I've been waiting for ages, I knew I would, eventually. And at a great price too......also found some other goodies, will share soon! Oh and better typewriter photos, she just needs a good wash....oh and a name! Thinking Betty Blue?
Have a great weekend everyone, will pop back next week!

I've listed some Green, yellow and orange packs in my little shop. Not much left of the green daisy one, it was very popular!
5 x 1/2 metres for £12.50 plus P&P. Thanks to everyone who bought the pink ones, sorry they have all gone! Email me if you are interested in any custom packs, made to your requirements!!
I'm also going to list some of my most special sheets over the next few days. Packs of 3 or 4 vintage sheets in the larger 50cms x 50cms size :) x

ReplyDeleteMany beautiful flowers in your garden these days:)

ReplyDeleteShe's fantastic! I remember the first time my kids saw a typewriter, they were fascinated lol x
ReplyDeleteWhat a fabulous find! Very pretty and I'm not surprised that your girls loved it too :O)xx
ReplyDeleteGlad you've had a good day. :) x
ReplyDeleteWell done on your great find. I think the name sounds very cool!
ReplyDeleteP x
Great typewriter, the Munchkin loved the old one I found at the car boot, too. Funny for these youngsters, all those things we take for granted are alien to them! Records are another example. Thank you for having popped by my blog and leaving lovely comments, they are very much appreciated. I am trying to get back into a good routine!

Lol.......the technology race, mind you our mums would never have imagined being able to cook with microwaves when they were young.
ReplyDeleteI remember my first training on the "word processor" I was in awe and thought I would need a university course to work that thing.
Now I dont want a microwave in the kitchen, but the the iPad stays.
Betty Blue is a great name and also a great movie back in the day (i.e. in the 80's) Lovely color! :-)
ReplyDeleteLove your typewriter! Spell check in the 70's when I was growing up was Webster's Dictionary, delete was a bottle of White-Out !!! to this day my husband says I hit the keys on the keyboard too hard!
ReplyDeleteI wish now I hadnt thrown my old typwriter out !! This post brought back happy memories of when I used to work in a typing pool for Alfred marks in the UK
ReplyDeleteI still have my grandfather`s old portable typewriter and he passed away in 1970! I will never use it but it has such sentimental value, I have the letter he typed for me when I was confirmed in 1959 and even then it was not performing very well, such memories.
ReplyDeleteYay! I'm jubilating with you, Ada! I was telling my eldest daughter the other day about my secretarial diploma, taken in London in the early 90s, and how we had learned to type on proper typewriters with no delete button. One had to touch type, press the keys firmly and NOT make mistakes.
ReplyDeleteI loved it. I learned to touch type by pretending I was playing the piano.
Happy weekend to you and your family, Ada
Stephanie
It's so lovely, and aren't vintage finds so much more satisfying when you've waited and waited....
ReplyDeleteBetty's gorgeous! I've been lucky enough to find three in as many weeks at my local charity shops, and I still can't help but look for more whenever I go in them! Hubs is not impressed with my growing collection :-)
ReplyDeleteHi Ada, HaHa!!!You really made me smile this morning!!!Things have really changed, haven't they!!!Technology!!!The one thing I am truly grateful for is my laptop with it's spell check and delete button!!! I must have used them at least 3 times just typing this comment!!!HaHa!!!It's this over sensitive keypad!!!Not me?!! Have a fab weekend

Lovely! I also want one and see them around but usually are stupidly expensive. So I think it's fabulous that you have yours and such a pretty typewriter too! Streetcomber. above, is right about waiting for a vintage find - you do appreciate them so much more then.
ReplyDeleteI love your new typewriter, such a lovely colour.
ReplyDeleteIt's a stunner. Jim and I once had three typewriters between us which we sold at a carboot sale, ages ago now, for a song. None of which were as lovely as yours though.xx
ReplyDeleteLove your new typewriter! And the name you have chosen is just perfect.

These comments hurt. I was taught typing on a manual typewriter in high school. The comments make me feel very old. But your typewriter is sweet, and I'm sure your girls are having fun typing on the (choke) "vintage" find. Off to apply some age-reducing cream .... W :[

ReplyDeleteTypewriter's! Wow. Remember typing with carbon paper?

What a lucky find in a beautiful colour!
ReplyDeleteThis is a real beauty, this typewriter. Ah, memories. And in reaction to your comment on my last post, I totally agree with you. But it can be very difficult too. DH's oldest son has had lots of hospitalizations since he was 15 years old, due to his state of mind caused by this autism. I don't know exactly how to express muself in english, hope you understand. Enjoy your weekend, groetjes, Gerda.
ReplyDeleteManual typewriters take me back, the great big chunky ones we learnt to touch type on at school and these little portables were so cute ... No wonder you're so excited :) x
ReplyDeletegorgeous, gorgeous and then more gorgeous! xxxx
ReplyDeleteoh score! and a lovely colour too! it looks great, enjoy, Heather x
ReplyDeleteWhat a treasure! The colour and the name are fantastic! Cx
ReplyDeleteOh I love Betty Blue ... what a great find ... Bee xx
ReplyDeleteBetty blue was a great buy! It looks so good on your cupboard too. I had to smile at the girls reaction there were typewriters around when I started work!
ReplyDeleteSarah x
Oh dear you have just reminded me of my worst nightmare, carbon paper! My am I glad we have come a long way since.
ReplyDeleteI love Betty Blue. She's a gorgeous colour and so lady like. A beauty of a find!!:)
ReplyDeleteRosie
Very pretty, I like the colour. I always feel so tempted when I come across them in second hand shops.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful typewriter and such a pretty color!!! xo Heather
ReplyDeleteI am so jealous! I love the colour combo on yours. I've been hoping for a yellow one for some time but would take any colour frankly. Enjoy your weekend. x
ReplyDeleteI love that typewriter, don't forget the tippex (remember that!)
ReplyDeleteI love the explaining that you have to hit the keys hard and it has no delete...makes one feel not as young as we used to be! x
Betty is gorgeous looking.....what a find! I want one! ha!
ReplyDeleteAlso love your crochet coasters....lovely colours
Hope you are having a good weekend

Betty f its in perfectly!
ReplyDeleteYour daughter make me feel old now! We had lessons in school, writing on such typewriter! My little fingers could hardly press down the buttons/keys (how do you say?). Lovely tressure you found!!
ReplyDelete: )
Betty Blue a perfectly perfect name for your new typewriter Ada.
ReplyDeleteLove the conversation with your girls, very funny but it does date us doesn't it?
I have an old typewrite bought at a garage sale, it's white, blue would be much nicer
or red, swoon. Don't think they ever made them in red :(

There's nothing as sweet as the feeling you get when you find something you've been looking for for an age, hoorah to you on your beautiful find! x
ReplyDeleteI've got 2!! Different ones.
ReplyDeleteHad 3, one elecric one that looks like the one your daughter is typing on, and I had the same experience with children trying it. They had no clue how to do it, but once they figured it out, they loved it! And after a month it was broken..
But I still have my older ones, from 1960 and 1940.. If you had lived close by, I would give you one, because I don't need both..
Have a nice week ;o)
What a fabulous find! I've been on the lookout for ages too - I live in hope! Betty Blue is perfect :)
ReplyDeleteThank you everyone for your comments on Betty Blue! She certainly brought back a lot of memories for everyone.....some good, some not so!!! :) x
ReplyDeleteHellooo. Do you have any of the green fabric for sale shown in this post my dear? Xo
