The Winter Bugs arrived too this week......poor Little Bea and then Mr Bea down with them, luckily Eldest Bea and myself have escaped.....fingers crossed!
I've begun to wrap pressies, write cards, much, much later then usual, but I'm getting there. And you know what, it's just one day! Everything will be ok!
So I'm not stressing and today I'm taking a day off from Christmas. My body is telling me I need rest, so that's what I'm doing.....
And I'll crack on with this.....get those Christmas pressies finished, I'll pop the lights on the tree, might even watch a Christmas movie, I can almost do that now, watch TV and crochet!
How are you getting on with the Christmas preparations? Anyone else wishing we could go back to 1950s Christmas traditions, a stocking and small pressie for the children, Christmas dinner, with crackers and paper hats of course, time with family......no mad rushing around, filling shopping trolleys with ridiculous amounts of food. The shops only really close for one day! It's one day!
Might even read a little too.....
I hope all is going well with your Christmas preparations, and I hope, really hope, you aren't getting stressed by it all, after all.......it's only one day!
Bye for now,
Ada :) xxx
My 'make do' Christmas tree skirt! :) xxx
ooh I LOVE the tree skirt!
ReplyDeleteWhat you can do with a partly finished blanket! :) x
DeleteI'm really not the person to talk about Xmas. I'm not a fan.....Bored of it now......Anyway, what's that gorgeous looking book you're reading? It looks like the delicious eye candy that I just love. xx
ReplyDeleteIt's this months Mollie Makes Loo, I've had a quick read but hoping to devour it today! :) x
DeleteThe tree skirt looks gorgeous and so does Mollie Makes, I have not yet spied the Christmas edition anywhere here yet, they are hard to find. I just today unpacked the tree and stuck a few kindy creations on the windows. We are off the the beach for a few days and that is a sure way to stop stressing about Christmas! Hope your gang gets better soon. mel x
ReplyDeleteI only really start thinking about christmas in December and I just chill with it all. I refuse to go shopping at weekends for a mad spending spree. At the moment I'm just exhausted and taking one day at a time anyways so that just figures right with christmas. I looked at a Mary Berry Christmas book my mum had and it was insane. It planned the whole day around cooking. I think it started at 7.30 and ended at 2pm when you could sit down and eat and remind everyone you were in the house too. Bonkers. I prefer wafting about and we all take it in turns. Today is a home day so me and the girls are planning some felt sewing and movies.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your christmas Ada.
X
Your tree skirt is fabulous. I resigned from my job recently so for the first time in many years I have been able to do my Christmas Shopping at a leisurely pace. Bliss! Hope you have a restful and Happy Christmas. xx
ReplyDeletethat tree skirt/wrap……beautiful!!!!!!
ReplyDeletexxxxxxx Ale
You sound like me, I always walk round the shops muttering "It's one day!" Sorry you've all had bugs, I hope you're all feeling fine very soon. Better to get them over with now. We had flu just before Christmas last year, and I know how it puts a crimp in the preparation. But you should definitely take it easy until you're feeling better. What needs to be done will get done in the end.
ReplyDeleteHope your family members are feeling better soon and that you avoid the bugs. I was feeling stressed last week, but I know that if I carry on like that, it makes my chronic condition worse, so I gave myself a good talking to - and now it's just going to be what it will be. Hope you all have a peaceful time. x
ReplyDeleteSorry to hear about the bugs - we are hanging on by the skin of our teeth. Several of Matt's friends have missed these last couple of days at school due to a flu type bug :(
ReplyDeleteI agree - it's only one day and can be heard muttering exactly that. It's easy to forget the purpose of the day too when the hype starts so early. But I still enjoy it - just wish everyone else would play by my rules!
LOVE LOVE LOVE your 'make-do' tree skirt, Ada, fabulous and love the colours. Oh dear, it's awful having bugs so close to Christmas (or anytime) I feel really blessed what with everything else, that I have been bug free this winter (so far, touching wood - superstitious? Moi?) Hope it passes over well before the Big Day. And yes, I have been stitching away for some light relief, myself, I hate the overwhelming stress which is largely media induced. Have a peaceful and relaxing week - if you can!! Lxx
ReplyDeleteYes it really is silly, and I suppose I am really lucky as I don't go into shops or into town so I miss all the chaos that come with it. We most, apart from lego and a few bits for the kids have a home made Christmas and I love the simplicity of it all. It does make for a lot of work, but I love all the prep and making it look pretty. Your Christmas tree skirt is so lovely, we can't do anything as pretty for ours, ours is in a holder fill of water, maybe I will have to be a bit more creative with that next year. I do hope that your day of rest recharges the batteries. My body is screaming out for much the same, but I am not that great at listening!! Sending you much love and wishes for a bug free home xoxo
ReplyDeleteI am feeling very chilled about Christmas this year - we have decorated the house a little bit at a time and we aren't having traditional Christmas food - too much faff and not really suited to the climate. I have been loving making some fun decorations from 'rubbish' though. AND I am very excited about some lovely friends arriving all the way from England! They leave today and arrive on Monday! Eleanor xx
ReplyDeleteit's so true! it's only one day. Your christmas tree is dressed very appropriately I must say! I think that might start a fashion! enjoy a little rest, maybe it's a good time for everyone to slow down a little, Heather x
ReplyDeleteOh I do hope the bugs disappear soon. I'm resting today too - body not capable of much today - best to listen to it! I love your Xmas tree skirt :) We're having a super simple Xmas this year with lots of homemade - I love keeping things simple - it is indeed just one day! Much love to you and yours xxx
ReplyDeleteAda you are so right...just one day!
ReplyDeleteHope you are taking it easy today....?
Your christmas tree skirt is adorable clever you...
bestest as ever to you and yours
Take care Daisy j xxxxxxxx
Hope you don't get the bugs going round! You are so right to put Christmas in perspective. We don't go over the top, we just have a quiet Christmas and boxing day with the four of us. my Dad goes away with his wife, and so we have a very chilled out day. Hope you have a relaxing Christmas, Fliss x
ReplyDeleteAda, I love that tree skirt too! It is PERFECT. I am sneaking over and nicking it. Hope you + the family feel better soon and enjoy the holidays. xxx
ReplyDeleteWhat a superb skirt, much better than my quiche dish!
ReplyDeleteI love the skirt for the tree, how pretty.Hope you find some time to relax x
ReplyDeleteHope those pesky bugs are gone by Christmas and not passed around. Just one day and the most important part is enjoying it together :) xx
ReplyDeleteSame here Ada ... adopting the just one day approach ... I'm really looking forward to the little ones and Mr F being off and some family chilling time ... love, love, love the tree skirt ... so perfect ... Bee xxx
ReplyDeleteSorry to hear about the icky bea's. I hope that they get better soon and don't feel the need to share their bugs with the rest of you. Your tree skirt looks great - was that not meant to be a scarf if I remember correctly!! It would make a great tree skirt though. Perhaps it will have a different life instead.... Take care and enjoy your day off, I am sure that you deserve and need it. xx
ReplyDeleteI'm feeling way too laid back this year. I'm still busy, just not "Christmas" busy. Shopping is finished. Pressies need wrapping. Cookies need baking. But I'm feeling rather lazy about it all. Hope your family is over the flu very quickly. Your tree cozy looks adorable ... very Ada Bea! I think a cup of tea & a good book sound perfect right about now ;) Take care Ada. Wendy x
ReplyDeleteIf only it was every year then we could get the hang of it...wouldn't that be fun! xx
ReplyDeleteI hope they feel better soon! I was a bit stressed - but fine now. All under control. Just! Not long now - have fun!
ReplyDeletethere's nothing 'make do' about that skirt it's divine! hope kids feel better soon. so excited its Christmas! xxxx
ReplyDeleteDarling tree skirt! Hope you all feel better soon! Wishing you and your family a joyous Christmas! xo Heather
ReplyDeleteI'm always baffled how crazy some people are in the supermarkets in the run up to Christmas. Like you say, it's just one day! I've finished my shopping and present wrapping (hurray!) and have started my festive baking so not feeling too stressed thankfully. Hope you manage to steer clear of the horrible winter bugs. Pretty much everybody in my family has been sick the past week except me, I'm hoping I'll escape it!
ReplyDeleteyour tree skirt is looking very much at home under your tree. Hope the family soon recover, there is a viral infection going round so the Dr told my granddaughter but at least they should have all recovered by 25th. I am not having my Xmas meal till 28th when my 3 girls have time to visit, Helen the nurse is working over the holiday time.
ReplyDeleteLove the tree skirt. Happy Christmas x
ReplyDeleteBeautiful festive photos, and your tree skirt is amazing, Ada! You are right....no need to stress, just try to enjoy and relax! Love your pretty new crochet colours, you have made some beautiful crochet things this year.....and crocheting and movies are a lovely way to spend time! Happy Christmas!
ReplyDeleteHelen x
I hope everyone feels better soon. I'm doing my best to keep the holidays simple for my family and I'm glad to know others share my view. The tree skirt is really sweet!
ReplyDeleteHere, here! Ooh i remember the excitement of a stocking ( sock) with nuts and an orange and Neapolitan chocolates in...I sound a bit OLD saying this, but yep those days seemed simpler, but more traditional......LOVE your tree skirt, Ada! We have been asked all week in Bumble Bee for these....We should have commissioned
ReplyDeleteYOU! Thanks for kind words on my post.....Stay well dear friend!....Love Maria x
I do hope that the winter bugs are starting to leave your home Ada. We take Christmas very gently here, there is no stress or anxiety, no over consumption or buying as if the supermarkets would never be stocked again. It's about family and time together, so giggles and games and maybe a trip down memory lane a little. I hope you continue to work gently through what you are doing for your festivities this year, loving your tree skirt too xox Penny
ReplyDeleteSo true it is only one day, Winter lurgies have scuppered the Christmas prep here to but mow my crocheted wreath is finished I'm hoping to get the tre and dec up tomorrow, we really are way behind, have a wonderful Christmas

Hope you have managed to survive the germs and your family is now better. I too wish for those simpler Christmas days!
ReplyDeleteSarah x
I hope you're all better now and that you escaped the germs. I wouldn't say it's been stressful here but it has been very, very hectic. It's good that you made the space for a quiet day amid the hustle and bustle to rest. I've been loving your crochet on instagram lately. Take care lovely. xx
ReplyDeleteA hippity happity handmade Christmas to you! Your Christmas tree pot cowl is WONDERFUL xxxx
ReplyDeleteLove your "make do" Christmas skirt. Those colors just pop. I hope you are avoiding the bugs and staying healthy. Listen to your body and rest when it needs it. I've grumbled this past week about having to stop and wait before I could complete things but I realize that if I do that, I am much better able to handle everything. I hope you and your family have a wonderful Christmas. Hugs, Grammy.
