Silly Old Suitcase Love......

I LOVE.... Silly Old Suitcase if you know her, you'd love her too! She's creative, she's colourful, she's talented, she's Bonkers......she's inspiring!

When I saw her Christmas Light-shade I just knew I had to put these to good use....

Some leftover lampshades from my Lampshade Tree.....they've been sat in the cupboard, I was just waiting for the right moment, the right inspiration!

It's not as beautiful as Marartje's, but that's ok, it's colourful, it's wacky, it's Bonkers......and full of things that mean so much to my family!

Christmas Bells that belonged to my Grandma, fairies bought by my Mum for the girls, handmade garlands and stars from Bloggy friends! My special teacup....lots of beautiful things.

Yes Completely Bonkers....like me! Can't wait to see my families faces....and I wonder who will be the first to have an ornament land on their head!!!

Sorry the photos aren't that good! Pom poms will be added later, I'll try to get a better photo then.

Thank you Maartje you are a marvel!

And THANK YOU for all your wonderful comments on my last post. They were very touching. Most of you who read this blog regularly, will know that my Mum has Alzheimer's and can do nothing for herself anymore.
It's very sad to see someone who was so energetic, creative, intelligent and so lovely fade away, it's heartbreaking. I'd love her to see the things I make, to understand what I do, but sadly this isn't to be anymore. I know many of you also live with the knowledge that someone you love, is fading away.

Welcome all those of you who have found me via Bunny Mummy, it's lovely to have you visit and I hope you will pop back.

Bye For now, must dash.......Pom Poms to make, lots and lots of Pom poms, they're addictive you know.....

Ada :) xxx

Your lampshade is looking so pretty and you totally understand how to make it, with
all kinds of findings and ornaments, without spending much money on it.
Filled with lovely personal Christmas geekery, perfect!

I'll be walking around with a big fat smile on my face the rest of the day, being
    bonkers!

  7. I have an elderly friend with alzheimers and visit her every week. She is not unhappy and is lucky enough to have lots of support from wonderful neighbours. Her progress has been quite slow over some years but she is pretty confused now. She lives in the moment and fills in the gaps her memory leaves with stories of her own. There is much repeating of stories and she can't always distinguish fact from fiction and finds TV difficult and upsetting for that reason. The soap about doctors in the day time actively frightens and worries her. Luckily she doesn't watch it very much. She is still a lovely and gracious lady who is a real pleasure to be with. She is very tranquil and calm and enjoys looking out at her garden enormously, and listening to music which is all enveloping for her. She loves happy music like waltzes and pretty ballet music. She talks about her father all the time, who she obviously loved dearly. He is very present to her. I don't find her situation at all undignified and I find she teaches me a lot, the small things make her remarkably content. She still enjoys her life and we all help to keep her safe in it. I find her quite lovely and a wonderful person to spend time with, she also has a quiet dignity that makes people respect and admire her. I do not fear the disease, because of her. The care from professionals has been less good than that from her neighbours who provide meals, medication, dog walking and companionship. She has no relatives at all and her carer who was a friend, died 2 years ago. The immediate responses from some very special caring people have been incredible and have made me have some faith in humanity, and have been there solidly for two years now. The social care support given is limited, transitory and not that great and she pays for it. The real people around her treat her with love and care and provide most of the practical help and they do it for free. She is in safe supporting hands and I trust that will be always so. I hope so.

She doesn't know who we are but she still recognises us in some deep-down way to know that we are friends, that much is certain.

    1. How wonderful, this is as it should be,if there were more close communities like this then many more of us wouldn't fear old age! My mum is in the end stages where she can no longer walk, talk or even hold her own drink...she's still however dignified and lovely..... Your last sentence sums it up perfectly, thank you so much for your comments :) x

  12. Hello Ada! I've not been having much time for leaving many comments these days ... your lampshade is so wild!! Love it!! Your family's going to love it too because they know this is a part of YOU ;) Wonderful previous post too Ada ... even though we may not know what we've got till it's gone, I think that's ok because we're living in the moment and enjoying it at the time. I didn't think too hard about "one day this will all be gone" because that would've made those really good last few years together have seemed so fleeting. I enjoyed them to the fullest then ... and it's only now that I too wish things were still the same. I've realized now that I can't keep living in the past when my kids are pulling me into the future. Have a great day Ada, and don't stop being silly & fun ;) Wendy xox

  18. very wacky and will be a talkative piece.
It is so sad when people develop Alzheimers, I think from what you have said Mum is in the advanced stage so at least she is not aware that she is confused etc, at this stage it is the family that suffer so seeing their nearest and dearest drifting into a world of their own So tragic such a cruel illness

  20. Just catching up with my favourite blogs and am in awe of your latest creation. I must have a go. Also read your other post about the perfect day and can relate to the heartbreak of Alzimers. I also watched my Mum fade away over the last years of her life. Dad was so devoted to her till he was suddenly taken and due to my bad health poor Mum had to go in a home. It broke my heart, especially when she couldn't remember that Dad had gone. But we can now look back on the great memories of good times and fun family Christmas's when my brother was also with us. The new generations are making new memories and great gatherings as I hope yours are too. Love, And blessings, Trills x.

  22. ~ Smiling at his wonderful creation... hehe!
I couldn't comment although I read and totally understood your last post, Ada..
Goodness I've been there too, and my heart still ache for the sadness of all those years... ..I actually had a little cry as the timing of this was pretty apt for me...
~ My setting was almost the same, as yours really, worry with the children and health of my self....No Dad to share the love and concern with as he had passed when I was small......But a lovely sister, like your self. to chat with......Ada keep strong as I would like to say it gets easier, but of course you know it doesn't...
I often wonder why my Mama had to go through this long, long cruel journey.... ( and i am sure you are the same)
But alas one day we may all know...Be well lovely friend....My thoughts of course are with you....
    Love and light Maria x
