Any advice on batting anyone, I'd like to use cotton. Anyone got any recommendations where to buy it from?
My sewing machine works like a dream, I'm not even using the foot pedal, it's how I imagine flying 1st class to be! No name yet, still pondering!

Bye for now.....got a quilt top to finish!

  2. Batting are you kidding?? !! See my blog post yesterday about a recycled one from a UK supplier made from recycled plastic bottles then your quilt will be pretty eco-friendly I would say with all the vintage fabric too. It is looking absolutely great! Jo x

  17. Looks great, Ada! I love to use cotton batting. I can't speak to stores in your area but I buy mine off a huge bolt at the fabric store. I have to carry it to the cutting table and they cut the yardage for me.

  18. you have certainly not wasted any time Ada with this project, it is looking so good and such very straight lines. Re the batting I get mine from Empress Mills, they are based in Colne Lancashire but do internet and mail order, I think mine is a mixture of cotton/polyester. Are you going to sewing for pleasure next week at the NEC? there will be a good choice there and lots of good things to see and you would get plenty of advice there. I am really looking forward to it

  19. That quilt is already looking gorgeous - such a good use of your lovely vintage sheets and I am still very jealous of your lovely new sewing machine. Such a responsibility choosing a name for her!

  20. Hi Ada. Your quilt is looking lovely already. I used to use Warm & Natural cotton wadding. If you use polyester wadding, it will disintegrate more each time you wash your quilt. You can buy Warm &I Natural (and many others like it) online from http://www.cottonpatch.co.uk/acatalog/Warm_and_Natural_Waddings.html

Gosh, those sheets never looked better than they do all pieced together this way ... how could you NOT be happy with all this old-meets-new thing going on there at your kitchen table. Enjoy your day! 27. Hi Ada, your quilt top is being made in superfast time! It's taken me a year to get to the same stage by hand :). Yesterday I started the final stage of my quilt, and I've used a budget batting from Dunelm. It cost very little, although it is not natural fibres, and I can see you've had good recommendations for those.

  29. Hello lovely, sorry I am little behind in catching up on everyone's lovely blogs. I can completely see why you are sooo happy and this is going to be gorgeous when finished. As for batting, well I am a novice, so most probably not the best to advice, but ideally you want to use 100 wool, but for me I reckon at the cost wait until you are really capable of working with it all. For now I would suggest the iron on batting, which helps in keeping it all in place when you need to quilt. It works like a dream, you still need to pin it all together, but it definitely makes for a much simpler process. I take you most probably have it sorted by now. Sending much love xoxo
