Creating For Those You Love......

It's a wonderful thing, creating something for someone you love. To pour love and care into what you're making. To think about them, about their special qualities and quirky ways, as you stitch, or knit, as you hook or bake.

As I wrapped up this blanket for my daughter, I thought about how special it felt to make this for her. My love went into each stitch. She's seen it, throughout its stages.....it's a difficult thing to hide. But you know something, that's ok. This isn't something easily purchased from a shop, this one took my time, lots of my time. Maybe, just maybe, by seeing how much time this took, she will appreciate and value it more. If not now, with her teen brain.....but in the future.

There was a big, big smile on her face as she unwrapped it. She's snuggled under it right now, like a lot of teens she spends a lot of time in her bedroom, this will help to keep her warm and cosy.

Yes, there's something incredibly special, and satisfying, creating something for someone you love.

Back tomorrow with my last Positive January post,

Amanda :) xxx

  1. It turned out beautifully! I have a blanket like this made for me by my grandmother I received it for a graduation gift and I remember not being as grateful as I could/should have been. Everyone else gave me money what did I want with a blanket? 30 years later the money and whatever was bought with it is long gone. But on cold winter days, my blanket is wrapped around my shoulders..every stitch holding her love and keeping me warm. She will appreciate it and love it more and more the older she gets. That's why we create isn't it? So a piece of us will always be with them.

  2. It's beautiful Amanda. The brown works so well with the other colours - it makes it seem even warmer somehow. I crocheted a blanket for my eldest when she went to uni and felt comforted that each time she wanted a bit of a snuggle part of me would be with her - now you don't get that with something bought from a shop! Keep warm x Jane

    1. It's a fine balance isn't it, your teen will be just starting to develop their own sense of style, not always cool to share that with mum! ;) xxx

  8. And that's the thing ... when we make something for someone, it does slow us down so that we are thinking of that person, and imagining them using the gift and in return they will think of us each time they wear/use/snuggle in our handmade gifts. Win-Win :) The blanket is gorgeous, and I can imagine how soft it is. Wendy x

  17. Oh what a lovely blankie; we are a family of blankie snugglers but have to make do with blankies created by other talented folk as I have yet to grasp the knack! Also, love the name of the wool; All Seasons Chunky! Sound like how I feel sometimes :)

  19. I love your blanket and the post in general, including your readers' comments. How wonderful it is to be able to remember a loved one through an item they've made for you. It is wonderful to create for others even if they don't realise the effort and love that one puts into those things.... I am crocheting hot water bottle covers for my girls and they love them... and it brings me happiness that these hotties and mum's love is keeping them warm at night.... Have a lovely weekend! 21. I'm sure your daughter will cherish her blanket for many years to come. My mum and Granny made a crochet bedspread for my 18th and it's one of my most treasured posessions - a "rescue if the house is on fire" piece!
