Hello, I hope you are all ok, and doing the things you love...
Well June, you didn't start Flaming at all, cold, wet, windy...more like winter than Summer! Thick socks, warm jumpers, and woolly blankets were needed at the beginning of the week.
You've redeemed yourself somewhat today though, so I'm almost at that forgiving stage. Today has been Flaming, sunshine and lovely warm temperatures. It's been a good day, I've spent time with a good friend, sat in the sunshine, picked up some amazing bargains at the Antique Centre. (I must blog about it soon, it has lots of quirky stuff at brilliant prices, friendly staff, I could...whoops, do, spend hours in there!).
This evening, I've pottered in the garden. That's a lovely word isn't it. To potter. To loose time in your garden. To wander, admire, listen, to smell...oh the dwarf lilac is amazing! Yes, I do like to potter.
Garden plans are moving on, I can't wait to show you what we've got planned. I'm so excited...we are at the Very Messy Stage at the moment. Moving plants around, giving some away, some sadly will end up in the lasagne beds! I'm keeping the faith though, by the end of June things will look a whole lot nicer.
We've not got a headstone or plaque for Mum. She didn't really like anything like that. My garden really will be in her memory...a place where I can sit and reflect. Today I found some birthday cards she had sent me, some with Dads name on, and others after he died. I'm glad I kept them. She would have been so excited by my garden plans. I'm so glad she passed the gardening gene on to me.
I've a lovely day planned for tomorrow too, out with a friend to the wonderful Felley Priory. I will take lots of photos to show you. And that's not all folks, I'm off to Hope and Elvis at the weekend for my very first workshop. I'm a bit nervous to be honest, it's going to involve a bit of stitching! Again I will take photos and share next week.
I feel very spoilt. It's lovely! ;)
Hope you all have a great weekend...let's hope the sun continues to shine!
Amanda :) xxx
Looking forward to seeing your garden progress! Planning to start work on ours this year. Lovely colourful crochet too x
ReplyDeleteThank you, I do love to crochet...ideally I'd have several pairs of hands so I can garden and crochet at the same time! ;) xxx
DeleteYou are right I am sure that your Mum would love you to be in the garden and remembering and enjoying!!! That is the sort of thing that Mum's like! Everything is looking really good. Do I see that your shed has gone? Or am I remembering wrong! Hope that you have a great time tomorrow and at the weekend! Let us hope that the lovely June weather from today is here to stay!! xx
ReplyDeleteHi Amy, yes it's gone! It doesn't it in with our plans, and to be honest it was literally full of junk! I would like one of those sentry ones, not even sure if that's how it's spelt, but those tall thin ones. Fingers crossed for good weather Amy, we need it! :) xxx
DeleteYour garden is looking so pretty. I really like the idea of growing it memory of your mum, such a lovely way to spend time remembering. I hope you have a really good day out tomorrow and that you enjoy the workshop, it sounds great. CJ xx
ReplyDeleteThanks CJ, I'm really looking forward to it :) xxx
DeleteIs pottering the same as what we Americans call "puttering"? I do a lot of that around here. Some of my garden plants have already "bitten the dust. " Literally! I may even have to try a few things again after waaaay too much rain this Spring and now the heat. Looking forward to seeing how your garden grows. Linda@Wetcreek Blog
ReplyDeleteI think it must be Linda...gosh aren't the elements hash, but we have to remain optimistic don't we, plant again my dear! ;) xxx
DeleteYour garden is looking lovely dear Amanda which reminds me I have so much to do to get mine in order. I'm glad the sunshine has brought some warmth for you, its quite cold here. I love visiting antique shops and discount stores. some of my best 'treasures' have come from there. Enjoy your workshop.
ReplyDeleteA garden is a wonderful memory of your Mother, I don't want a plaque or headstone either.
Beautiful photos dear Amanda, crochet, fabrics and your cat; cats and boxes, so much fun for them. >^-^<.
xoxoxo ♡
I'd much rather get something old and with character than have all new stuff and look like everyone else...good for the environment too! :) xxx
Deletesome good sunshine makes the difference in our days!!!!!!
ReplyDeletexxxxx and have fun, ale
My goodness doesn't it! :))))) xxx
DeleteI put Lily of the Valley in my garden in memory of my Mum, it was her favourite scented flower. I have had it in every garden that I have made. I spent around 5 hours "pottering" yesterday and managed to get loads of jobs knocked off the list. Trouble is as I crossed one off I added another. Still, the sun is shining now so it would be a shame to stay in doors.
ReplyDeleteOh the smell is divine isn't it, yes the list is never ending! Think that's probably why we love it so much! ;) xxx
DeleteHow lovely to be able to remember your Mum in the garden. Enjoy the workshop!
ReplyDeleteJacqui xx
I really can't think of a better tribute Jacqui :) xxx
DeleteIt's great you can remember your mum in your garden, I'm positive my gardening genes came from my grandfather x
ReplyDeleteMy mum always said her gardening gene came from her dad, he loved his flowers but grew lots of veg too...whenever I think of her it usually her gardening, knee deep in flowers! :) xxx
DeleteDad and I used to spend lots of time in my garden and now that he has gone, I have missed him soooo much. And garden time isn't the same. You have given me some thinking on how I could do my garden and remember my Dad. Being outside is the best therapy. Thank you for the inspiration Sue x
ReplyDeleteHow lovely, my dad didn't garden, and my husband really hates it so I've never experienced life with a man who does! Yes, I bet you do miss him Sue...but aren't we lucky to have such a gift passed down to us? ;) xxx
DeleteI love your pictures... Such a nice atmosphere...
ReplyDeleteI love pottering too, I think in Dutch we call it " rommelen " :-)! Very relaxing!
My love for gardening also comes from my mum, so very valuable isn't it?
Have fun this weekend, and good luck with the workshop! Love from Mirjam.
The best gift I think! Rommelen, that sounds much nicer that pottering...think I might need to adopt that one! ;) xxx
DeleteSo pleased to hear you have lots of lovely things to enjoy - look forward to seeing the garden plans unfold. And hurrah indeed for this sunshine, summer really is here :)
ReplyDeleteYes, if everything goes to plan, June will be a fabulous month! :) xxx
DeleteIsn't it just so special to do something that connects you to the ones you have lost. Have a lovely weekend, hopefully some weather for you to enjoy your garden :-)
ReplyDeleteIt's lovely Sharon...fingers crossed for sunshine! :) xxx
DeleteI love how pretty your kitty is =]
ReplyDeleteemyii90.blogspot.co.uk
She's gorgeous isn't she...don't be deceived though, she has a great bite! ;) xxx
DeleteI love pottering, it's quite the best way to spend one's time. I'm not a brilliant gardener but I'm trying, now that we've got our allotment I'm doing a lot more and enjoying it. I hope you enjoy your weorkshop at Hope and Elvis, looking forward to seeing the results of your stitching! Rachel xx
ReplyDeleteAn allotment! Hoe exciting, I'd love one but sadly haven't the energy...might have to invite other to garden with me! ;) xxx
DeletePottering, I love doing that in the garden. I enjoy seeing your progress Amanda, gardening is so calming I find, especially weeding or is that just me? Enjoy your workshop.Hx
ReplyDeleteNo H, not just you! ;) xxx
DeleteHave a wonderful weekend x
ReplyDeleteThank you Gemma, it was great...hope you did too :) xxx
DeleteWhat a lovely sunny post. And yes, I totally agree about the delights of pottering, in the garden or anywhere else :)
ReplyDeleteHere's hoping you're having the best of times at Hope and Elvis, you lucky thing x
Thanks Annie, H&E was great...spent Sunday pottering again! ;) xxx
DeletePottering is my absolute favourite thing to do! No pressures of time, no to-do lists... bliss.
ReplyDeleteI love the colour of your wall surrounding the fireplace. And your mantel looks lovely. Oh, and that calendar - so pretty :)
I intend to dedicate a bit of the new garden to my mum's memory too. Not sure whether to choose a specific spot, or to just plant all the things she loved throughout the beds. We used to share seeds and cuttings, and visit the garden centre together. I miss that.
I hope you enjoy your workshop and are having a lovely weekend.
S x
They leave a big hole don't they, especially if you enjoyed doing something together. I'm still not sure what I'm going to do, think a rambling rose and an arch will be the way to go :) xxx
